Together for Progress

Demetrius McCoy is a native of DeKalb and a son of District 7 and is running to represent us in District 7 because he knows that all DeKalb County residents deserve a prosperous county where our families are safe, where our businesses can thrive and where we can enjoy a excellent quality of life.

As the husband of Dr. Mariah Crew McCoy and the father of Demetrius Jr. and Malik, Demetrius understands how critical it is for the 350,000 residents of District 7 to have accountable, experienced, and service minded leadership on Day 1. Demetrius has a proven track record for getting things done and after eight of serving in senior leadership in DeKalb County Government, Demetrius is offering himself to continue to serve the citizens of DeKalb County in a greater way. As a former Policy Analyst in the Office of the Chief Executive Officer, former Constituent Services Director and current Chief of Staff in the Office of Commissioner Mereda Davis Johnson, Demetrius has been in the trenches fighting for us on a daily basis. His current role has provided him an up close and personal knowledge of the role of a County Commissioner. Demetrius is a leader who will be ready to serve the constituents of District 7 on Day 1.

Demetrius has the leadership, relationships, and experience to continue the progress that DeKalb County has made over the years. He is a proud graduate of Miller Grove High School and earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Paine College in Augusta, GA where he joined Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc and is an active member in the DeKalb County Chapter (Nu Mu Lambda). McCoy holds a Master of Science degree in Organizational Leadership from Brenau University and is currently studying for a Ph.D. in Public Policy from Liberty University.
